Q: Are you experienced with any particular disorders such as depression or generalized anxiety?

A: Since finishing graduate school, I have worked with over 2,000 individuals and families.  During that time I have gained a tremendous amount of experience with a wide range of specific diagnosable conditions and issues including addictions and substance abuse, adoption, anxiety/phobias, attention deficit (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders, asperger’s syndrome, bipolar/mood disorders, depression, divorce and step families, learning disabilities, loss and grief, relationship issues, trauma, and post traumatic stress disorder.

A specific diagnosis can be important in many situations, and critical in some situations. In the end I work with clients to help them create the changes they want and have the life experiences that are most important to them. Sometimes this work is directly related to a specific diagnosis, but often the most important work is done independent of any diagnosis and is focused primarily on healing, learning, and acquiring specific skills to accomplish specific objectives.

Q: What ages do you work with?

A: From conception to beyond retirement.  I particularly enjoy working with young families because there are things new parents can do to nurture healthy well adjusted children that are simple and fun, increasing the chances that later years will go more smoothly.  But the reality is that many families didn’t have those opportunities or understandings early on, and there is very important and effective work that can be done with school age children and teens. It’s more challenging, but it is essential and rewarding, because it still has the potential to have a hugely positive impact on the trajectory of a young person’s life.

I also work with a lot of adults who may be focusing on issues completely unrelated to marriage or children. It is often the case that experiences in early life continue to impact how a person sees and relates in the world and approaching them through the lense of human development can produce deep insights and excellent outcomes.

Q: What do you charge for a session?

A: My standard fee is $150.00 for a 50 minute session. I do periodically have room for clients who are not using insurance to pay for sessions and seek a reduced fee when the standard fee would prevent them from getting help.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: Yes, I am currently an “In-Network” provider with Aetna, Ceridian, Cigna, MHN, and TRICARE. If you have a PPO, POS, or EOS I can also work with many plans through Blue Cross, Blue Shield, HealthNet, United Health Care (UHC), and others. Some of the insurance policies are complex and confusing, so it’s a good idea to talk about insurance in advance and clarify what costs might be involved.
